Kazakhstan Shines at EXPO 2025 in Osaka: An Exhibition of Innovation and Heritage

The World Expo 2025 officially opened on April 13 on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka, Japan. The event, running until October, has brought together 158 countries and nine international organizations under the central theme of “Future Society for Our Lives.” This theme is being explored through three thematic zones: Saving Lives, Connecting Lives, and Empowering Lives.
The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Emperor Naruhito of Japan and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Kazakhstan’s delegation, led by Arman Shakkaliyev, Minister of Trade and Integration, was also in attendance at the Expo.
Kazakhstan’s national pavilion is situated within the Connecting Lives thematic cluster, alongside countries like South Korea, Germany, and Türkiye. The pavilion showcases a digital universe centered around the symbolic shanyrak, representing unity and the Kazakh spirit. Visitors can engage in a multi-sensory journey through Kazakhstan’s heritage and aspirations via interactive exhibits and projection shows.
One of the highlights of the pavilion is the innovative ALEM device (Astana Life Ex-situ Machine), developed by Kazakh medical researchers and engineers. ALEM can preserve donor organs outside the body for over 24 hours, revolutionizing regenerative medicine and offering new possibilities for saving lives.
True to Kazakh traditions of hospitality, the pavilion treated visitors to national treats on the opening day. EXPO 2025 serves as a vital platform for fostering international ties, economic development, and cultural dialogue, providing another opportunity to showcase national achievements on a global stage.
