Kazakhstan’s Oldest Person, Aged 114, Resides in Ulytau Region on International Day of Older Persons
International Day of Older Persons Celebrated in Kazakhstan
The International Day of Older Persons, observed annually on Oct. 1, acknowledges the valuable contributions of elderly individuals while bringing attention to the challenges they face. In Kazakhstan, approximately 2.4 million senior citizens play a crucial role in society.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, there are 423 individuals in Kazakhstan who are 100 years of age or older. The Ulytau Region is home to the oldest woman in the country, who recently celebrated her 114th birthday. Additionally, there are centenarians in the Turkistan and Pavlodar regions, with ages ranging from 110 to 112 years old.
The majority of Kazakhstan’s centenarians reside in the southern part of the country, particularly in the Turkistan Region where 64 people are 100 years old or older. The increasing number of older individuals in the population is a global trend, with life expectancy at birth exceeding 75 years in many countries, marking a significant increase since 1950.
As the population ages, there is a growing demand for comprehensive healthcare and social support services, especially for older adults facing conditions like dementia. This year, the International Day of Older Persons will focus on the theme – Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide.
The celebration of older persons is a reminder of the wisdom, experience, and resilience they bring to communities. It is important to recognize and support the older generation as they continue to play a vital role in society.
