Kazakhstan’s Wheat Exports to Kyrgyzstan Surge 100%
Uzbekistan Emerges as Key Buyer of Kazakhstan’s New-Crop Grain

In an impressive shift in regional trade dynamics, Uzbekistan has become the largest buyer of new-crop grain exported by Kazakhstan, according to a report from Forbes Kazakhstan. Since September of last year, Kazakhstan has exported a remarkable 7.6 million tons of wheat over an eight-month period, marking a substantial 58 percent increase compared to the same timeframe the previous year.
The bulk of this wheat has gone to Uzbekistan, which accounted for 2.7 million tons—approximately 30 percent more than last season. This surge positions Uzbekistan as a dominant force in the Central Asian grain market.
Following Uzbekistan, Tajikistan ranks second, importing 1.1 million tons, reflecting a 1.5-fold increase from prior figures. Iran made significant gains as well, taking in 889,000 tons, which is an astonishing 16 times more than the previous 2023–2024 season.
Azerbaijan experienced the most dramatic increase, with exports soaring nearly 114 times to reach 569,000 tons. Similarly, supplies to Afghanistan rose by one-third to 270,000 tons, showcasing the growing demand in the region.
Kyrgyzstan also saw an increase in wheat imports from Kazakhstan, with volumes doubling to 181,000 tons, indicating a positive trend in cross-border agricultural trade.
This robust increase in wheat exports reflects not only Kazakhstan’s strong agricultural output but also the shifting trading relationships within Central Asia, as countries seek to secure their food supply in an ever-evolving market landscape.
