Kenya Introduces New Electronic Travel Authorization System for Tourists
In a recent announcement, the Kenya Immigration Administration Secretary General, Julius Bitok, revealed that the country has implemented a new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for visitors. The system allows eligible travelers to enter Kenya without the need for a traditional visa.
Bitok shared that the first passengers to benefit from this new system have already arrived at Jomo Kenyatta Airport. He explained that the ETA system streamlines the entry process for travelers and eliminates the need to obtain a visa beforehand.
Since the introduction of the ETA system, Kenya has received approximately 5 thousand applications, out of which over 2 thousand have been successfully approved. This indicates a positive reception and adoption of the new travel authorization process.
Furthermore, Kenyan President William Ruto made an additional announcement during the recent ceremony commemorating the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence. He stated that as of 2024, Kenya will completely abolish the visa requirement for entry, demonstrating the government’s commitment to facilitating tourism and travel to the country.
It is a part of Kenya’s broader strategy to boost tourism, as the country aims to attract 4.5 million tourists by 2027 by removing the visa requirement for visitors from all countries. This bold move reflects Kenya’s dedication to promoting tourism and making the country more accessible to international travelers.
