Kim Jong-un Urges Children to Fulfill Women’s Duty

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has emphasized the importance of increasing the country’s birth rate and has called on women to take on the duty of having more children. In a recent speech, Kim stated that it is essential for women to take action in stopping the decline in population growth, and he urged mothers to prioritize providing good care and education to their children.
This call to action comes as reports indicate a significant decrease in the fertility rate in North Korea. Official Ahn Kyung-su of the website “dprkhealth.org” highlighted that many families in the country are hesitant to have more than one child due to the financial burden associated with raising and educating children. He also pointed out the possible influence of South Korean media, which portrays the high social status of women, in discouraging women in North Korea from having more children.
A report published by the Hyundai Research Institute in South Korea further emphasized the impact of the 1990s famine on the decreasing fertility rate in North Korea. The report projected a continued decline in the population, with estimates suggesting that it could decrease to 23.7 million by 2070. This decline could pose significant challenges for North Korea in terms of its workforce and manufacturing industry.
In response to this issue, North Korean state media has reported that Pyongyang is providing aid to families with three or more children, including free housing, food, medicine, household goods, and educational support for children. However, South Korean officials have noted that the fertility rate in North Korea has been steadily decreasing over the past decade.
It is clear that addressing the declining birth rate in North Korea is a complex issue that requires attention and action. Kim Jong-un’s call for women to fulfill their duty in increasing the birth rate reflects the seriousness of this problem and the need for comprehensive solutions. As the population continues to decline, it is essential for North Korea to prioritize addressing the underlying factors contributing to this trend in order to ensure the country’s long-term stability and development.
