Kremlin to closely monitor outcomes of Erdogan-Zelenskiy meeting
President Erdogan’s meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskiy in Turkey is being closely monitored by Russian officials. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized the importance of the meeting and expressed their constructive partnership relations with Ankara. Peskov stated that they are interested in the topics that will be discussed between the two leaders.
Peskov also acknowledged President Erdogan’s efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, highlighting the role he played as a mediator, which was highly appreciated by Russian President Putin.
In regards to a potential meeting between Putin and Erdogan, Peskov mentioned that they are considering future contact and will announce a date once it is determined.
When discussing the possibility of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Peskov revealed that Russia has never closed the door to the negotiation process at various levels. However, he expressed doubt in the current prospects for such a process, citing Kiev’s refusal and Washington’s reluctance.
Despite the challenges in diplomatic means, Peskov emphasized that Russia can still achieve its goals through different methods.
Regarding the whereabouts of Wagner’s founder Yevgeny Prigojin, Peskov stated that they have no information on the subject and reiterated that the Kremlin does not follow him nor have any desire to do so.
Overall, Russian officials are paying close attention to the Erdogan-Zelenskiy meeting and maintaining their partnership with Ankara, while also acknowledging President Erdogan’s efforts in resolving the Ukraine conflict.
