Kyrgyz authorities capture Uzbek fugitive linked to major budget scam

A citizen of Uzbekistan wanted by Interpol has been detained in Kyrgyzstan for allegedly causing significant damage to the state budget, according to reports from the Kyrgyz National Security State Committee.

The 32-year-old S.I. was apprehended by security service officers on July 26. He was considered a highly dangerous criminal and had been included in Interpol’s wanted list.

It is believed that S.I. and his associates were involved in the fabrication of a fake customs cargo declaration, resulting in a loss of over 12 billion UZS to the Uzbek state budget. The fraudulent activity prompted swift action from authorities, leading to the detainment of the suspect.

Following a ruling from the Botken District Court in Kyrgyzstan, S.I. has been placed in a pre-trial detention center as the investigation continues to unfold. The case remains under scrutiny as law enforcement officials work to uncover further details surrounding the alleged financial misconduct.
