During a working visit to Paris on November 10, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov held a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Électricité de France (EDF), Luc Remont. The discussions were aimed at strengthening cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and EDF in the energy sector.

Kyrgyz President Japarov expressed his appreciation for the growing interest among French companies, particularly EDF, in participating in promising energy projects in Kyrgyzstan. EDF is a state-owned multinational electricity company with headquarters in Paris and a revenue of €71.2 billion in 2016. The company operates a diverse portfolio of generating capacity across Europe, South and North America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Its expertise lies in various forms of electrical power generation, including nuclear, hydro, wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, and fossil fuels.

During the meeting, President Japarov urged EDF to collaborate in the construction of a hydroelectric power plant on the Chatkal river and to accelerate efforts in this direction, to which EDF expressed its readiness to participate. The President also discussed the importance of attracting financing from international financial institutions to expedite the implementation of energy projects and invited EDF to join ambitious initiatives to build large-scale hydroelectric power plants in the Central Asian region.

EDF CEO Luc Remont assured his commitment to substantive cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, citing the company’s experience in executing energy projects, particularly in hydropower. He also expressed his interest in visiting Kyrgyzstan to advance the practical stage of collaboration.
