Kyrgyzstan Demands Justice after Russian Police Attack on Citizens in Moscow
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken action after reports emerged of mistreatment of Kyrgyz citizens during a raid at a bathhouse in Moscow. The ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Vakunov to demand an explanation for the incident and seek clarification on the legal basis for the operation and use of force against Kyrgyz nationals.
In an official note handed to the Russian envoy, Kyrgyz authorities emphasized the need for disciplinary measures against any law enforcement officers found to have used unjustified force. They also called for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, highlighting the importance of protecting the rights of Kyrgyz citizens and maintaining the alliance and strategic partnership between Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
The raid at the “Bodrost” bathhouse in Moscow took place on April 11, with eyewitnesses reporting arrests and physical violence against Kyrgyz nationals present at the venue. A Facebook user who witnessed the raid described it as a traumatic event, with people being treated inhumanely by riot police.
Reports suggested that the reason for the raid was due to the bathhouse administration allegedly denying access to local Russian residents. Around 60 Kyrgyz nationals were said to be present during the incident, with eyewitnesses recounting brutal treatment by police officers.
Members of Parliament and other individuals have condemned the incident, calling for accountability and transparency in addressing the mistreatment of Kyrgyz citizens in Moscow. The public outcry has urged authorities to take action and ensure that those responsible for the violence are held accountable for their actions.
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ demand for an explanation from the Russian Ambassador underscores the seriousness with which the Kyrgyz government views the mistreatment of its citizens abroad. It is hoped that through diplomatic channels, justice will be served and steps will be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
