Kyrgyzstan Launches CIS School League Orient

A School League initiative has been proposed in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), following a successful online meeting held on February 18, 2025.

Kyrgyzstan took the lead in suggesting the creation of a School League, drawing on the experience of the League of the Kyrgyz Republic to organize a national selection stage for teams. They also presented a comprehensive Concept for hosting sports competitions among CIS countries.

Representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan who participated in the meeting showed keen interest in structurally organizing sports competitions among schoolchildren. This would involve setting up a tiered system for selecting top teams and giving them the opportunity to compete in international finals.

The primary goal of establishing the School League is to foster team sports, encourage student participation in physical education and sports, and enhance the sports facilities in schools. It is anticipated that such competitions will promote the well-rounded development of individuals and identify talented athletes for sports clubs and national teams.

The initiative is a significant step towards promoting sports and physical education among schoolchildren in the CIS and will likely have positive outcomes in the long run.
