Bishkek – 14:58, 14 June 2024 – Russian specialist Maxim Lisitsyn has been appointed as the head coach of the national football team of Kyrgyzstan, as reported by the Kyrgyz Football Union (KFU) on social media.

Lisitsyn will be in charge of training the team for the third round of qualifying games for the 2026 World Cup. He has been working in the Kyrgyz Republic for the past four years, during which time he led the country’s youth team (U20) to the final stage of the Asian Cup in 2022. Lisitsyn also served as the head coach of the Olympic team of Kyrgyzstan (U23) during his tenure.

Following the approval of Lisitsyn’s candidacy, KFU President Kamchybek Tashiev met with the new coach to wish him success in his role and express hope that the team will achieve their set goals under his leadership. The agreement between the Kyrgyz Football Union and Lisitsyn is signed for one year, until the completion of the third qualifying round for the World Cup.

The contract of the previous head coach, Stefan Tarkovic, was signed until June 30, 2024. After thorough internal consultations, the management of the Union decided to terminate cooperation with Tarkovic and the entire coaching staff after the expiration of the agreement.

The Kyrgyz Football Union is looking forward to a new chapter under the leadership of Maxim Lisitsyn and is excited to see what the future holds for the national team under his guidance.
