
Uzbek Diplomats Hold Talks with Hong Kong Law Enforcement Leaders

Representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Beijing recently paid a visit to the police of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China and the Hong Kong Correctional Service. During their visit, the Uzbek officials held meetings with key figures such as Inspector Leo Chung from the Hong Kong Police Operations Unit, Tsang Hinglun from the International Cooperation Department of the Hong Kong Correctional Service, and Officer Kinpeng Jason.
Discussions during the meetings focused on the potential for further cooperation in law enforcement between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong. The Uzbek side provided insights into the significant measures taken in recent years to prevent violations, combat corruption and crime, and the ongoing reforms in the judicial system of Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek officials highlighted that the changes taking place in Uzbekistan regarding the rule of law aim to protect human rights and freedoms, promote justice, and enhance the activities of law enforcement agencies in alignment with contemporary standards.
A key point of discussion was Uzbekistan’s state policy in supporting its compatriots living abroad. The Uzbek officials detailed the efforts made in protecting the rights and interests of Uzbek citizens facing challenges in foreign countries, facilitating their return to Uzbekistan, and providing comprehensive assistance for their reintegration into society.
In return, the Hong Kong officials shared information on the laws and regulations that foreigners should adhere to in Hong Kong, the guidelines for staying in the region, and the unique characteristics of the local police structure and services.
Both sides expressed mutual interest in strengthening cooperation in crime prevention and enforcement, emphasizing the importance of ongoing coordination between diplomatic missions and law enforcement authorities.
The Hong Kong officials expressed gratitude for the support provided by Uzbekistan in repatriating Uzbek citizens during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic from 2019 to 2023.
As a result of the meetings, an agreement was reached to further enhance bilateral cooperation and collaborate on resolving cases related to violations. This visit marks a significant step towards fostering stronger ties between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong in the realm of law enforcement and security.
