Kyrgyzstan Takes Steps to Reduce Statelessness
The Ministry of Digital Development of Kyrgyzstan has put forth a bill for the country to join the Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness. This bill has been released for public discussion.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has the right to citizenship. Stateless individuals face numerous challenges as they are often denied access to work, education, and healthcare.
The 1961 Convention plays a crucial role in protecting stateless persons around the world. It helps define who these individuals are, establishes their legal identity, and ensures that their fundamental rights and freedoms are upheld without discrimination.
The Ministry of Digital Development emphasizes that Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the convention is a significant step in aligning national legislation with international standards.
