Kyrgyzstan Temporarily Suspends Export Permits for Cattle and Small Livestock
The Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture in Kyrgyzstan has announced a temporary suspension on the processing and issuance of permits for the export of cattle and small livestock. This decision was made in order to conduct an inventory of livestock, with the goal of improving the quality of services provided and ensuring compliance with veterinary and sanitary standards.
The restriction on exporting horses, cattle, and small livestock will be in place for approximately 15-20 days, after which the issuance of export permits will resume. All applications submitted during this period will be given priority and processed immediately after the inventory procedures are completed.
It is important to note that this year, Uzbekistan has emerged as one of the biggest buyers of Kyrgyz meat. In the first six months of the year, 53,400 head of livestock were exported to Uzbekistan, a significant increase from the approximately 5,000 exported during the same period in 2023. This highlights the growing demand for Kyrgyz meat in the region.
For now, Kyrgyzstan is taking steps to ensure the quality and safety of its livestock exports by temporarily suspending the processing of export permits. This measure aims to ultimately benefit both the country’s agricultural sector and its trading partners.
