Laser Orient: A New Earth-Based Alternative to Starlink for Remote Internet Coverage

Taara: Alphabet’s Laser Internet Connectivity Solution Competing with Starlink
Taara, a company established by the Alphabet holding, is revolutionizing internet connectivity in underserved regions using laser technology. Originating from Alphabet’s "moonshot factory X," Taara aims to compete with SpaceX’s well-known satellite service, Starlink, as reported by The Financial Times.
Using a system of sensors, optics, and mirrors, Taara transmits data through laser beams instead of fiber optic cables, achieving speeds of up to 20 Gbps over distances of up to 20 kilometers. This innovative approach is more cost-effective and faster to deploy than traditional fiber optic lines, making it ideal for remote and rural areas.
Headquartered in Sunnyvale, near Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, Taara currently employs 20 individuals. The company operates in 12 countries, including India and certain regions of Africa, providing internet connectivity solutions. Taara also supports congested mobile networks at events like the Coachella music festival in California.
Taara boasts technological advantages over Starlink, with terminals that can be easily installed on poles, trees, or buildings within hours, eliminating the need for rocket launches to deploy equipment into space.
With its groundbreaking laser technology, Taara is poised to transform internet connectivity in underserved areas and compete with established satellite services like Starlink.
