Local Residents Urge President to Construct Reservoir in Nooken and Bazar-Korgon

BISHKEK – The third People’s Kurultai, currently taking place in Bishkek, saw a delegate from Nooken and Bazar-Korgon districts of Jalal-Abad region, Rakhmanzhan Zholdoshev, making a significant request to the president. Zholdoshev urged the construction of a reservoir in the region to harness the waters of the Kara-Unkur River.
According to Zholdoshev, the Kara-Unkur River carries approximately 750-800 million cubic meters of water annually through Bazar-Korgon district. He highlighted the importance of utilizing this water resource instead of allowing it to flow into Uzbekistan unused. Zholdoshev proposed the construction of a reservoir by blocking the Zhaz-Kechuu River, which flows into the Kara-Unkur River, citing a feasibility study already submitted to the Water Resources Service.
The construction of the proposed reservoir, as per Zholdoshev, would not only aid in the development of land in Nooken, Bazar-Korgon, and Suzak districts but also enhance food security, boost the fisheries industry, and address clean water issues in the region.
The ongoing third People’s Kurultai has welcomed 698 delegates, including representatives of labor migrants abroad and ethnic communities. A special recognition was given to the oldest delegate, 98-year-old Ulukbek Ergeshev, on behalf of the head of state during the event.
