Goldsmiths University of London Commits to Supporting Pro-Palestinian Students
The Goldsmiths University of London administration has made a series of commitments to support the group “Goldsmiths for Palestine (G4P)”, which consists of pro-Palestinian students. This decision comes after the group organized a sit-in protest in the library of the Professor Stuart Hall building.
In a written statement, the university expressed its willingness to review its ethical investment policy and encouraged students to present evidence supporting the removal of investments in companies connected to Israel. Additionally, the university has pledged to allocate undergraduate scholarships to Palestinian students and support the proposal to name a conference hall after the late Palestinian reporter, Shirin Abu Akile, who was killed by Israel.
Pro-Palestinian students at Goldsmiths University of London have been protesting against Israel’s actions in Gaza for approximately six months. Their sit-in protests at the library lasted for about five weeks, drawing attention and support from the community.
Furthermore, the protests have spread from the United States to the United Kingdom, with students from around 10 universities in the UK participating in pro-Palestinian demonstrations on their campuses. They have set up tents and joined student groups advocating for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and condemning Israel’s war crimes.
This solidarity among university students and staff reflects a growing global movement in support of Palestine and calls for justice in the region. Goldsmiths University of London’s commitment to standing with its pro-Palestinian students is a significant step towards building a more inclusive and socially conscious academic community.
