Mamakeev Surgical Center Fails Fire Safety Standards

Bishkek – The National Surgical Center named after Mambet Mamakeev in Bishkek has been found to not meet fire safety requirements, according to a report from the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The center has been given a month to address the violations identified during the inspection.

This news comes following a tragic incident at the Research Institute of Cardiac Surgery and Organ Transplantation on February 11, where a fire resulted in the deaths of two children and the evacuation of 260 people. 31 patients were transferred to other hospitals, and 19 pre-operative patients were sent home. A criminal case has been opened under the article “Violation of Fire Safety Rules” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In response to this incident, the Fire Supervision Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations has initiated an unscheduled inspection of all medical institutions in Kyrgyzstan to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations. It is crucial that all medical facilities prioritize the safety and well-being of their patients and staff to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
