“Synthetic cannabinoids, namely synthetic marijuana, are also seized in electronic cigarettes in Turkey.”

This alarming information was revealed in the United Nations World 2023 Drug Report. United Nations Drug Control Board Member Sevil Atasoy highlighted the dangers of electronic cigarettes in Turkey.

Atasoy emphasized the harms of electronic cigarettes, stating, “We must not underestimate the risks associated with electronic cigarettes. Even without added substances, electronic cigarettes are harmful. The inclusion of synthetic cannabinoids in electronic cigarettes poses an even greater danger.”

Despite being perceived as a safer alternative to traditional tobacco products, electronic cigarettes have been linked to various health issues, including respiratory illnesses, heart problems, and circulatory disorders, due to the chemicals they contain. In young individuals, electronic cigarettes can impede brain development.

The World Health Organization is urging immediate action regarding electronic cigarettes, with sales banned in 34 countries. It is crucial to be aware of the potential risks associated with electronic cigarettes, especially with the presence of synthetic cannabinoids.
