Marriage registrations drop as divorce rates rise in Uzbekistan
The Statistics Agency in Uzbekistan has reported that there were approximately 48.6 thousand marriages registered in the country during the first three months of 2024. This number is 900 less compared to the same period in the previous year. The average age of women getting married was 23.3 years, and for men, it was 28.2 years. The data also shows that the number of divorces has significantly increased by 1.5 times compared to the first quarter of 2020.
Out of the total registered marriages, the majority involved women under the age of 25, accounting for 77.2% of all marriages. On the other hand, the average age of individuals getting divorced during this period was 37.4 years for men and 32.5 years for women. The largest share of divorces was among women under the age of 35, making up 62.5% of all divorces.
In terms of the number of divorces, a total of 11.5 thousand divorces were recorded in the first three months of 2024. Out of these, 46.2% were divorces without children, 29.6% were with one child, and 24.2% were with two or more children.
These statistics shed light on the current trends in marriages and divorces in Uzbekistan, highlighting the average ages of individuals entering into marriage and getting divorced, as well as the distribution of divorces based on the presence of children. It will be interesting to see how these numbers evolve throughout the rest of the year.
