Massive 4.5 GW of Green Power Plants to Launch in Next 5 Years
The government of Uzbekistan has recently announced the 2025 state program, which includes various measures to promote renewable energy and sustainable development in the country.
One of the main changes introduced by the program is the restriction on the sale and use of AI-80 gasoline. This move aims to reduce the carbon footprint and promote energy efficiency. Additionally, the target of generating $10 million from the sale of carbon credits has been removed, highlighting a shift towards more ambitious goals for renewable energy development.
The program outlines plans to increase the share of renewable energy in electricity generation to 26% and overall energy generation capacity to 40%. This includes launching green power plants with a total capacity of 4.5 GW, as well as installing solar and wind power plants, photovoltaic panels, and hydropower plants.
To accelerate the adoption of renewable energy, the program will introduce “green” tariffs for electricity generated from solar and wind energy, as well as preferential tariffs for energy produced from biogas and waste.
Moreover, the program aims to promote sustainable practices in industries by implementing ESG reports at large enterprises and creating pilot industrial zones focused on producing environmentally friendly products in certain regions.
Changes in the minimum proportion of “green” components in regional and sectoral investment programs have also been introduced, requiring a higher percentage of sustainable practices over the coming years.
At the regional level, the program emphasizes attracting consultants for environmental and “green” development issues, developing environmental passports and ecological master plans for districts and cities, and introducing an environmental rating for regions.
Overall, the 2025 state program in Uzbekistan shows a commitment to promoting renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and fostering sustainable development practices across various sectors of the economy.
