Massive Evacuation on Champs-Elysées as Tourists Flee France

French Police Increase Security Measures Amid Ongoing Protests
The French police have escalated their security measures in response to the widespread pillaging and looting that has been occurring in cities across the country, particularly in Paris, during protests that have been ongoing for the past five days.
Footage and images circulating on social media show law enforcement personnel evacuating Şenzelize Street, including tourists, in an effort to clear the area. Officers are seen urging individuals walking on the street to vacate promptly and mocking those who are slow to respond.
In a separate incident, 21 individuals were detained in Lyon on various charges, such as carrying dangerous objects, disrupting public order, and theft. To prevent further looting, police vehicles were dispatched outside luxury shops in the city.
Meanwhile, in Marseille, demonstrators have set fire to numerous locations as clashes between protesters and police intensify. Recently, the police shared images on their Twitter account of items seized, which included slingshots, gloves, Molotov cocktails, and brass knuckles.
The protests initially erupted following the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old named Nael M. by a police officer in Nanterre on June 27. Outraged by Nael’s death, people have taken to the streets in various cities throughout France, resulting in clashes with law enforcement personnel. The police officer responsible for the shooting has been suspended and is awaiting trial as a detainee.
Since the start of the protests, nearly 2,000 people have been detained, and over 200 police officers have sustained injuries. Additionally, incidents of pillaging and looting have been reported in several cities, including Paris, Marseille, and Lyon. Approximately 45,000 police officers and gendarmerie are currently on duty to maintain order amidst the ongoing events in the country.
