Massive Fire Engulfs 14-Storey Apartment Building in Spain
A massive fire broke out in an apartment building in the Campanar District of Valencia, Spain, causing injuries to 13 people, including 3 firefighters. The fire, which started around 5:30 PM local time, is still ongoing, and emergency services are working tirelessly to bring it under control.
The size of the fire prompted the Municipality of Valencia to seek assistance from fire departments in nearby cities as well as the Military Emergency Aid Corps. Ambulances rushed to the scene, and a field hospital was set up to treat the injured.
A support and coordination unit was also established in the vicinity of the 14-storey building, which consists of different blocks. Eyewitnesses reported seeing people jumping from one balcony to another to escape the flames. The intense heat and strong winds made it challenging for the fire department to contain the fire.
Rescue operations are currently underway, and some individuals were saved from the balconies of the burning apartment. However, the exact cause of the fire, the number of people present in the building, and the possibility of any fatalities are yet to be determined.
“I am horrified by the terrible fire,” said Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in a statement. The Spanish government is closely monitoring the situation and providing assistance to the affected individuals.
