New Measurement Tools Introduced for Turkey Century Education Model
The Turkey Century Education Model, which focuses on holistic education and aims to nurture students in all aspects of their development, has introduced new measurement tools to support the implementation of the curriculum. These tools are now available on the official website “odsgm.meb.gov.tr”.
The new curriculum emphasizes a shift in measurement and evaluation practices, with a focus on diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment methods. Teachers are encouraged to use a variety of evidence-based tools such as assignments, projects, performance tasks, student portfolios, presentations, checklists, exams, observation and interview forms, student surveys, role-playing, group work, scales, graduate surveys, in-class discussions, self/peer/group evaluations, and reflection papers to assess and enhance student performance.
To ensure the validity, reliability, and usefulness of these tools, it is important to align them with the measurement and evaluation approach of the new curriculum and consider the developmental characteristics of the students in each grade level.
One of the new measurement tools introduced for 5th and 9th-grade students is the Self and Peer Evaluation Forms. These forms are designed to allow students to assess themselves and their peers based on the learning outcomes and process components outlined in the curriculum. The tools include worksheets, open-ended questions, performance tasks, and a graded scoring key for evaluating specific skills.
By incorporating self and peer assessment into the measurement and evaluation process, the Turkey Century Education Model aims to promote a more reflective and student-centered approach to learning.
