One Kyrgyz national, identified only as Alikhan, recounted the brutality they endured during the raid. He mentioned that individuals were challenged to arm-wrestling matches, beaten if they lost, had their documents destroyed, and were subjected to other forms of humiliation for several hours.
The Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry has issued a statement acknowledging the incident and is working to gather more information about the alleged abuses committed by Russian law enforcement. The ministry has been in contact with the detained individuals and has summoned the Russian ambassador to Kyrgyzstan to seek clarification about the operation.
However, the response from the Kyrgyz government has been criticized by some members of parliament for being too passive. Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev defended the cautious approach, citing potential repercussions for the country if a stronger reaction against Russia was taken.
Despite the denial of mistreatment by Russian authorities, civil activist Urmat Dzhanabayev condemned the actions of the officers and called on the Kyrgyz government to take a stand. He highlighted the lack of rights and protection for Kyrgyz migrants in Russia, despite agreements within the Eurasian Economic Union.
The migrants who experienced the abuse at the bathhouse have opted not to file official complaints due to safety concerns, according to the Kyrgyz Labor Ministry.
