Minister Göktaş participates in UN Status Commission meeting

Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Minister of Family and Social Services, recently represented Türkiye at the meeting of the status commission of the UN event with the highest participation after the UN General Assembly. Minister Göktaş was joined by representatives from all regions of the world and various UN organizations. During the meeting, Minister Göktaş also held discussions at the UN Headquarters and met with Amal Amal, President of the Egyptian National Women’s Council.

Discussions during the meeting included exchanging views on women and family activities, as well as exploring opportunities for increased international cooperation between ministries. Amal congratulated Minister Göktaş on the success of Türkiye’s efforts in combating violence against women and promoting women’s employment, expressing interest in learning from Türkiye’s experiences in these areas.

Parliamentary Women and Men’s Opportunity Equal Commission (Kefek) Chairman Çiğdem Erdoğan, Kefek Vice President Gamze Taşcıer, and Commissioner Çiğdem Koncagül also participated in the meeting, contributing to the discussions on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The Women’s Status Commission, established in 1946 as a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, plays a crucial role in promoting global studies to ensure gender equality and empower women. The annual meeting, held every March, brings together UN members and hundreds of participants from UN officials and non-governmental organizations to discuss important issues related to women’s rights and empowerment.
