Minister Özhaseki: 10-15 Thousand Houses to be Distributed Monthly in the Earthquake Zone

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki has announced plans to continue distributing 10-15 thousand houses every month in the earthquake zone starting from next month.

During his visit to Niğde to conduct inspections and meet with officials, Minister Özhaseki expressed the government’s commitment to providing housing for those affected by the recent earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. He highlighted the extensive damage caused by the earthquakes, with approximately 680 thousand houses, 170 thousand workplaces, and warehouses being severely affected. The total material damage was estimated at 104 billion dollars, impacting the lives of around 14 million people.

Minister Özhaseki emphasized the importance of solidarity and swift action in responding to such disasters. He stated that the government had already initiated construction projects in the affected areas, focusing on building earthquake-resistant and safe houses for the residents. He mentioned that the houses built by TOKİ (Housing Development Administration of Turkey) had proven their durability during the recent earthquakes, providing a sense of security for the occupants.

With approximately 307 thousand houses already under construction or in the planning phase in the earthquake zone, Minister Özhaseki assured that the government is committed to completing these projects efficiently. He highlighted the positive feedback from foreign mission chiefs who acknowledged the magnitude of the government’s efforts in responding to the earthquakes.

In addition to housing projects, Minister Özhaseki mentioned the construction of 50 thousand village houses and the on-site transformation of damaged buildings. He reassured residents in Niğde that support will be provided for reconstruction efforts, ensuring a smooth process for those in need.

The Minister’s program includes meetings with local tradesmen and sector representatives to discuss further initiatives in line with the government’s commitment to providing safe and sustainable housing for all citizens. The distribution of 10-15 thousand houses every month is set to begin in the coming month, continuing the government’s efforts to support those affected by natural disasters.
