Minister Yerlikaya announces children’s statements to be taken on Discord and Telegram
Two children involved in editing videos with criminal content on social media platforms have been taken under protection by the Izmir Cyber Crimes Branch teams. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Ali Yerlikaya, shared this information and stated that the fight against cyberbullying will continue. The children, named BT and ADC, are facing charges of child obscenity, insulting the police and martyrs, and degrading religious values. Their statements will be taken by the Public Prosecutor with the assistance of a psychologist.
In addition to this, access to the social media platform Discord has been blocked following allegations of abuse. The Ankara 1st Criminal Court of Peace granted the access block upon the request of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that judicial investigations have been launched regarding the content on Discord. Sanctions such as fines, advertising bans, and bandwidth throttling may be applied.
Minister Tunç emphasized the importance of protecting youth and children from harmful content on social media and stated that attempts to shake the foundations of society will not be allowed. The government is determined to combat cyberbullying, especially when it involves crimes against children and obscenity.
