Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Visits Almaty for Informal Meeting with Kazakh Counterpart
Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently traveled to Almaty for a working visit where he was welcomed at the airport by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The purpose of the visit was to hold an informal meeting to discuss various areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The agenda of the meeting included expanding practical cooperation in trade, industrial cooperation, transport and logistics, energy, agriculture, and water management. The leaders also discussed continuing active interactions between regions and cultural-humanitarian exchanges. Additionally, they exchanged views on international politics and regional cooperation issues.
During the visit, President Mirziyoyev and President Tokayev visited the Medeu mountain ski cluster. The Medeu dam, built at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level, serves to protect against flood and mudslide risks. The presidents explored the architectural features of the dam and took note of its historical significance.
The Medeu sports complex, located at 1,700 meters above sea level, features an expansive ice rink and can accommodate up to 3,000 people at a time. It serves as a popular destination for sports competitions, mass ice skating events, cultural activities, and festivals, attracting over 400,000 visitors annually.
Following the visit to the Medeu mountain ski cluster, the two leaders held an informal meeting in Almaty. Delegations from both countries discussed strengthening Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan good-neighborly relations, strategic partnerships, and alliance-building. They also addressed regional issues, including preparations for upcoming Central Asian summits to be held in Uzbekistan in the coming months.
Overall, the visit was seen as a positive step towards enhancing cooperation and fostering closer ties between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
