National Hospital in Bishkek Hosts Training Exercises

Training exercises simulating an emergency fire drill took place at the National Hospital in Bishkek, as reported by the Ministry of Health’s press center. The scenario involved a fire in the urology unit, prompting a full-scale evacuation of all patients and medical staff.
The training saw active participation from all departments within the urology unit, with a focus on safely evacuating bedridden patients. The exercise also included collaboration with four fire stations from Bishkek, along with specialized equipment and rescue tools provided by the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the rescue service.
Hospital staff practiced the evacuation process to pre-designated departments suitable for accommodating critically ill patients. The Minister of Health, Erkin Checheybaev, oversaw the simulation, highlighting the importance of such drills in enhancing the preparedness of medical professionals and emergency services for unforeseen incidents.
The need for such readiness was underscored by a recent fire incident at the Research Institute of Cardiac Surgery and Organ Transplantation on February 11, resulting in tragic consequences. Two children lost their lives, while 260 individuals were safely evacuated, and 31 patients were transferred to alternative medical facilities. Following the incident, a criminal case was initiated under the “Violation of Fire Safety Rules” provision of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Criminal Code.
These training exercises serve as a vital component in ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals within healthcare facilities, emphasizing the critical role of preparedness and coordination in emergency situations.
