Neurological Monitoring Vital for High-Risk Babies
Babies at risk may face neurological and developmental problems, according to prof. Dr. Mehmet İbrahim Turan. Such problems can range from laxity in the body to mental retardation, and can be prevented if detected early on. Parents of babies hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) must remain attentive to these risks and have regular doctor checkups.
To diagnose problems that may occur in babies at risk, a detailed neurological examination and related diagnostic tests should be conducted, such as EEG scans and brain MRI. Early physical therapy with a multidisciplinary approach should also be initiated as needed.
Prof. Dr. Turan emphasized the importance of postnatal neurological follow-ups, which should be carried out by a pediatric neurologist. Any delays in these follow-ups will impede effective treatment, leading to serious, long-term problems.
As such, parents must be vigilant about their baby’s health and do everything they can to detect, prevent and address any health complications. Early detection and intervention can make a significant difference in the life of a baby at risk.
