New Alzheimer’s drug shows positive results – Health Report
Pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly’s drug, donanemab, has shown promising results in slowing down the decline in cognitive abilities of Alzheimer’s patients. According to reports, patients administered with the drug through injections until their brains were free of protein called beta-amyloid showed a 35 percent reduction in the progression of Alzheimer’s in 18 months. The drug has the potential to prolong the lives of patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. However, two volunteers who participated in the study passed away due to dangerous edema in their brains caused by the drug’s side effects. Donanemab, like Leqembi, another drug developed for Alzheimer’s, lowers the levels of proteins in the brain that are believed to be responsible for the progression of Alzheimer’s. The promising results of the drug have raised hopes for the development of effective treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, which has affected millions of people globally.
