New Border Crossing with Kyrgyzstan Opens in Namangan

A new border customs post, named “Uchkurgan” or “Kensay” by Kyrgyzstan, has been officially opened on the border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. This checkpoint is located in the Uchkurgan district of Namangan region and is expected to handle a significant amount of traffic on a daily basis.

On average, around 10,000 people, more than 500 trucks, and over 300 cars are estimated to pass through this customs post each day. The proximity of the post to the Osh-Bishkek pass highway in Kyrgyzstan makes it an important checkpoint for both countries.

The “Uchkurgan-Avtoyul” and “Kensay-Avtoyul” checkpoints in Jalalabad region of Kyrgyzstan serve as the shortest route for tourists traveling to Kyrgyzstan and China. Additionally, the movement of transit cargo from Tajikistan’s Khojand region to Russia, China, and Kyrgyzstan through the “Uchkurgan” border post is expected to reduce traffic flow at the “Dustlik” border post in Andijan region by 30-40%.

This recent opening follows the reopening of another border customs post, “Korasuv,” in Andijan region after a 14-year hiatus. These developments are aimed at facilitating smoother border crossings, boosting trade between the two countries, and improving connectivity in the region.
