New End-of-Year Kyrgyz Language Exams Implemented in Kyrgyzstan’s Schools

Bishkek – 24.kg news agency reports that written and oral end-of-year exams in the Kyrgyz language will be introduced in general education organizations across Kyrgyzstan. The Ministry of Education and Science announced this new initiative, which will start with students in grades 5-6 for the 2024/25 academic year and eventually include students in grades 7-8 and 10 starting from the 2025/26 academic year.

These exams will be conducted by the Department for the Development of Education Quality under the Ministry of Education and Science. The exam will consist of three subtests: vocabulary-grammar, reading and comprehension, and writing. Students will have access to preliminary trial tests to help them prepare.

This new requirement is in accordance with the constitutional Law “On the state language of the Kyrgyz Republic” and the resolution of the Parliament “On issues of the state language and language policy in the Kyrgyz Republic.” It ensures that students have a strong foundation in the Kyrgyz language throughout their education.

Additionally, the Kyrgyz language test has become mandatory for applicants entering higher education institutions based on the results of the All-Republican Testing since 2024. Although last year’s results did not impact university admissions, the test was used to assess applicants’ proficiency in the state language.

The Ministry of Education has not yet announced whether there will be any changes for applicants in 2025. It remains important for students and educators to stay informed about these developments to ensure a smooth transition to these new exam requirements.
