Wizz Air Responds to Incident on Samarkand-Abu Dhabi Flight
A recent incident on a Wizz Air flight from Samarkand to Abu Dhabi has sparked controversy, with conflicting accounts from both the airline and passenger Rasul Kusherbayev.
According to a statement released by Kun.uz, the airline responded to material published regarding a problematic situation involving Kusherbayev. Wizz Air claims that the passenger did not follow the airline’s rules and accused the crew members of disrespecting Uzbekistan. The airline thanked the crew for their handling of the situation.
However, Kusherbayev, a public figure, stated that he accidentally sat in front of the emergency exit and did not understand the responsibilities explained by the crew. When he requested the rules to be explained in Uzbek or Russian, the crew asked him to leave the plane. Kusherbayev filed a complaint against the airline following the incident.
In response, Wizz Air conducted an internal investigation and found that the crew’s actions were in accordance with regulations and safety standards regarding sitting in front of the emergency exit. The airline clarified that explanations are only given in English and Arabic according to onboard communication rules. The passenger was expected to speak and understand English.
Despite claiming a lack of English proficiency, Kusherbayev confirmed understanding the rules, leading to an escalation of the situation due to a demand related to language. Wizz Air emphasized that its crew prioritizes safety and professionalism in handling such incidents.
It was reported that Kusherbayev raised his voice, involved other passengers, and accused the crew of disrespecting Uzbekistan. The airline stated that it does not tolerate acts of disobedience and called the Abu Dhabi police to document the incident. Kusherbayev later apologized to the crew members.
Wizz Air operates in accordance with Abu Dhabi laws and international safety standards. Press relations officer, Anastasia Novak, expressed gratitude for the crew’s actions in maintaining safety and handling the situation with professionalism.
