New Law Approved to Protect Children from Violence
The Senate of Uzbekistan has approved a new Law on Protection of Children from All Forms of Violence, which includes important measures to safeguard children who have suffered abuse.
Under the new law, victims of violence will be able to seek assistance from relevant authorities or the court to receive free legal, economic, social, psychological, medical, and other forms of support in special centers. Additionally, a toll-free telephone line will be established to provide assistance to those in need.
One significant provision of the law is the establishment of a procedure for issuing protection orders to children affected by violence. These orders, issued by internal affairs bodies, will be valid for up to 30 days and can be extended for up to one year if the threat has not been eliminated. The law also includes provisions for victims to claim compensation for material and moral damages.
The National Social Protection Agency has been tasked with identifying child victims of violence and those at risk of violence, maintaining records, and implementing preventive measures as needed. The agency will work to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children in Uzbekistan.
Furthermore, the law emphasizes the responsibility of parents to care for and protect their children, prohibiting physical punishment and harmful information that could negatively impact their well-being.
These measures demonstrate the government’s commitment to protecting children from violence and ensuring their rights are upheld. Hopefully, this new law will make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and provide them with the support they need to recover from traumatic experiences.
