New Oil Refinery Opens in Kara-Balta City

Junda Oil Refinery Resumes Production in Kyrgyzstan
On August 30, 2024, the Junda oil refinery in Kara-Balta city, located in the Chui region of Kyrgyzstan, was officially launched. The press service of the President reported that President Sadyr Japarov participated in the event.
After a four-year hiatus from February 2020 to March 2024, the Junda oil refinery has resumed production. Following major repairs in February and completion of commissioning work in March, the plant is now back in operation.
It is projected that by the end of 2024, the plant will reach its full capacity of 800,000 tons of raw materials per year, creating approximately 400 new jobs. The President highlighted that Kyrgyzstan’s economic policy is centered on establishing new production enterprises.
The Junda oil refinery previously produced various petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, tar, fuel oil, and liquefied gas prior to 2020. The relaunch of the plant was a significant concern for Kyrgyzstan, with President Japarov mentioning that during his state visit to China, discussions with the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, resulted in strong support and political will for the refinery’s reopening.
Plans for the modernization of the plant are underway, with approximately $450 million to be invested in the project. Additionally, President Japarov participated in the opening ceremony of a workshop for the production of weighted gold bars at Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC, with a production capacity of up to 14,000 bars per month.
The relaunch of the Junda oil refinery signifies a positive step towards economic growth and industrial development in Kyrgyzstan.
