New Regulations for Foreign Tourists in Bali: What You Need to Know
Authorities in Bali have announced stricter regulations for foreign tourists in an effort to protect the cultural heritage of the region and improve the quality of the tourism sector. The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, has approved new rules that will be implemented starting from March 25, 2025.
These new regulations focus on the behavior of tourists, their attire, and their compliance with local customs. Foreign visitors are now required to show respect for the culture and traditions of the island, including dressing modestly, especially when visiting sacred sites. Any violations such as using offensive language, engaging in unauthorized business activities, or causing environmental pollution will be met with strict penalties.
Additionally, tourists will need to pay a tourist levy of 150,000 Indonesian Rupiah (around 9 US dollars) and hire licensed guides when exploring popular attractions on the island.
As the sacred Day of Silence, Nyepi, approaches, authorities are urging all individuals to adhere to the established norms. Residents are encouraged to report any violations through a dedicated hotline.
