New York Experiences Heavy Snowfall for the First Time in 2022

New York City Hit by Heaviest Snowfall in Two Years

The northeastern parts of the United States have been experiencing severe weather conditions, with New York City seeing its heaviest snowfall in the last two years. Central Park, the largest park in New York City, saw snow depths reach up to 8 centimeters in a short amount of time. This substantial snowfall marked the most significant accumulation since 2022.

Throughout Manhattan Island, streets were left empty due to the continuing snowfall and strong winds, despite a population of approximately 10 million people. The New York Municipality had taken extensive precautions the day prior and worked to clear the snow from the streets and prevent icing by using salt.

Drone images showed Central Park, typically known for its greenery, covered in a layer of white. Additionally, the National Weather Service reported snow depths of up to 25 centimeters in some parts of the Hudson Valley, north of Manhattan.

Despite the extreme weather, there were still city residents and bicycle workers seen sliding, cycling, taking photos, running, and guiding tourists around Central Park. The snowfall also impacted areas beyond New York, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, leading to traffic on interstate highways coming to a halt.

Officials reported that some parts of Pennsylvania saw snow depths exceeding 38 centimeters. The weather conditions are expected to continue affecting the region, causing disruptions to daily life.
