North Korea Warns of “Terrible Consequences” for Military Provocation
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has issued strong criticism against South Korea and Ukraine following allegations that Pyongyang had sent troops to Ukraine to support Russia. In a statement released by the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim condemned Seoul for sending human aerial vehicles (UAVs) to his country, calling it “an ugly military provocation that cannot be forgiven.”
Kim warned that provoking a state with nuclear weapons could lead to dire consequences and described the actions of Ukrainian and South Korean officials as “crazy.” He accused the two countries of making reckless remarks and being influenced by the United States, which he referred to as “evil dogs.”
The allegations that North Korea was planning to send troops to Ukraine to support Russia were made by South Korea on October 18. However, NATO and the US Department of Defense have stated that they could not yet confirm these claims and that investigations were ongoing. Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov redirected questions about North Korean troops in Russia to the Ministry of Defense.
In response to the escalating tensions, South Korea announced that they would be implementing “gradual measures” in terms of military cooperation against North Korea and Russia. A senior government source in South Korea mentioned the possibility of sending a team of intelligence and military officials to Ukraine to monitor the situation.
