Dauletmurat Tadjimuratov, a journalist who was found guilty of organizing mass riots in Nukus and sentenced to 16 years in prison, has spoken out about the conditions of his detention in the Navoi colony where he is serving his sentence.

According to the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Oliy Majlis and members of the public group for the prevention of torture, who made a monitoring visit to correctional colony No. 11 in Navoi, Tadjimuratov’s living conditions in the colony were reported as fine. He stated that food supplies and medical care were provided on time and that there were no cases of torture or harassment in the colony.

During the visit, Tadjimuratov also received an explanation of all his rights from the Ombudsman.

Tadjimuratov’s case dates back to January 2023 when he was found guilty of organizing mass riots in Nukus. In July 2022, he organized a protest in Nukus, demanding his appointment as the new head of Karakalpakstan.
