On April 24, 2024, Ombudsperson of Kyrgyzstan Jamilya Jamanbaeva attended an international workshop at the Rule of Law Centre in Finland, as reported by the press service of the Ombudsperson.

During the workshop, the Ombudspersons of Central Asian countries and Finland shared their experiences in protecting human rights and freedoms. Jamilya Jamanbaeva emphasized the importance of cooperation between ombudspersons in addressing joint issues. She highlighted the significance of strengthening international cooperation, particularly in protecting the rights of migrants and exchanging best practices.

Jamanbaeva mentioned that the institute has signed over 70 memorandums with international organizations, civil society, and ombudspersons from other countries. The meeting also included discussions with various Finnish officials, such as the Vice Chancellor of Justice, Vice Ombudsman, Prosecutor General, and President of the Supreme Administrative Court.

The parties explored opportunities for collaboration and joint actions to promote human rights protection. Additionally, the ombudspersons from Central Asian countries had the chance to visit prisons in Helsinki to familiarize themselves with the conditions of detention. One of the prisons they toured was built over a century ago.

Overall, the workshop served as a valuable platform for sharing knowledge, building partnerships, and advocating for human rights across borders.
