Over 31,000 Marriages Registered in Uzbekistan in Early 2025

Civil registry offices across the republic have been busy documenting marriage cases, with a total of 31,775 marriages reported between January and February 2025.

The age distribution of these marriages for men shows that the majority, 78.7%, fall in the age group of 20-30 years old. Meanwhile, for women, the largest percentage, 52.4%, also falls in the 20-30 age range. Interestingly, a significant number of women under 20 years old, 35.3%, were also documented to have gotten married during this period.

In a recent session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, concerns were raised about the increase in early marriages, with around 300 cases recorded in 2024, a sevenfold increase compared to the previous year. The Children’s Ombudsperson presented a report on the observance of child rights legislation by state bodies, emphasizing the need to address this concerning trend.

Aside from marriages, civil registry offices also recorded a total of 135,914 live births in January and February 2025. The distribution between urban and rural areas shows a slightly higher number of births in rural areas, with 69,359 compared to 66,555 in urban areas. The majority of the recorded births were single births, totaling 132,669, with a smaller number of twin births (3,150) and triplets or more (95).

These statistics provide valuable insights into the demographic trends and dynamics within the republic, highlighting the importance of monitoring and addressing issues such as early marriages and ensuring the protection of child rights.
