Palestinian Agricultural Land Attacked by Jewish Settlers
In the town of Deir Sharaf, west of Nablus, Palestinian agricultural land has been damaged by Jewish settlers. According to the Palestinian official agency WAFA, the agricultural land was attacked three times by Jewish settlers who cut down and uprooted 155 olive trees in the area. Olive trees are the main source of income for Palestinian farmers in the West Bank.
Gazi Anteri, a Deir Şeref resident, reported that the Jewish settlers residing in the occupied territories have been attacking Palestinian agricultural land for quite some time. There are more than 250 illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank which Israel occupied in 1967. These settlements make life even more difficult for Palestinians living under occupation in the West Bank.
It is noteworthy that all Jewish settlements in the occupied territories are considered illegal under international law. Nonetheless, Jewish settlers frequently cut down or set fire to olive trees, which is a direct attack on the main source of income for Palestinian farmers.
The international community has repeatedly condemned Israel’s occupation and called for an end to illegal settlements in the West Bank. However, despite the pressure, the situation on the ground remains unchanged, and attacks on Palestinian agricultural land are still being reported. It is essential that the international community takes concrete steps to protect Palestinian farmers and their land.
