Title: Palestinians Protest Macron’s Visit Amid Continued Violence in Israel
Dozens of Palestinians gathered in Al-Manara Square in Ramallah to protest French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the Palestinian territory. The demonstrators carried banners condemning Macron’s support for Israel in the ongoing Gaza war.
Earlier today, Macron met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel, expressing his solidarity with the country. However, his visit to Ramallah, where he is expected to meet with regional leaders, has been met with opposition from Palestinians.
The protests come amidst the latest situation in Israel’s attacks on Gaza, initiated by Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. The morning of October 7 saw a comprehensive attack on Israel, referred to as the “Aqsa Flood”. In response, the Israeli army launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
The attacks have had devastating consequences, resulting in a significant loss of life and injuries. According to reports, approximately 1,400 Israelis, including 308 soldiers, have died, with 5,132 Israelis sustaining injuries in the attacks from Gaza. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza has reported that 5,791 people, including 2,360 children and 1,292 women, have died, and 16,297 individuals have been injured in Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
In addition to the violence occurring in Gaza, more than 90 Palestinians have died in attacks by Israeli forces and Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank. The clashes have also claimed the lives of 24 journalists, including 20 Palestinians, three Israelis, and one Lebanese individual.
Furthermore, on the Israel-Lebanon border, clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah have resulted in casualties. Since October 8, 31 Hezbollah members, six members of the Islamic Jihad Movement, three members of Hamas, and two members of the Hezbollah-supported Sunni Resistance Brigade have lost their lives. Additionally, a journalist and four civilians have also been killed. In return, three Israeli soldiers and one Israeli civilian lost their lives in the attacks carried out by Lebanon.
As the violence and tensions continue to escalate in the region, the visit of Macron to the Palestinian territory has become a focal point for Palestinian protesters voicing their frustration and condemnation of the French President’s perceived alignment with Israel. The situation remains tense, with hopes for peaceful resolutions and dialogue to achieve stability and justice for both Israelis and Palestinians.
