Palestinians Seek Shelter near Egyptian Border amid Israeli Attacks

The Israeli Army Prepares for Land Attack on Gaza Strip
The situation in the Gaza Strip is becoming increasingly dire as the Israeli army deploys armored vehicles and tanks around Khan Younis, the strip’s second most populated city. This move has prompted hundreds of Palestinians to flee to open areas near the Egyptian border, seeking shelter from Israeli bombardment.
The United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has reported that 117 thousand Palestinians lived in the neighborhoods of Khan Younis City, where the Israeli army has ordered evacuation. The UN also stated that 316 Palestinians were killed and 664 injured in just 24 hours as a result of the conflict.
Aid distribution in the region has been disrupted due to ongoing attacks and obstructions by the Israeli army, leaving civilians without essential supplies such as electricity, clean water, and sufficient food. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) shared that approximately 958 thousand Palestinians have taken shelter in 99 separate centers in the region near the Egyptian border. The number of Palestinians forced to migrate to the Gaza Strip has been reported as 1.9 million.
The city of Rafah, which has been the main destination for displaced Palestinians, also faces overcrowding and a lack of resources. The situation in the Gaza Strip has prompted the UN to call for warring parties to ensure the safe evacuation of civilians and provide for their basic needs in accordance with international humanitarian law.
As the conflict continues, the Israeli government is reportedly working on plans to reduce the population in the Gaza Strip. This includes the possibility of deporting Palestinians by opening the Rafah Border Gate between Egypt and Gaza, as well as considering “opening the sea routes.”
The agreement for a humanitarian pause in the clashes between Israel and Hamas has been ineffective in preventing further violence, and the situation in the Gaza Strip remains precarious as the Israeli army maintains a military presence in the region. The international community continues to monitor the escalating crisis in Gaza, with many calling for an end to the violence and a renewed commitment to peace in the region.
