Turkmenistan’s Transport and Communications Sector Shows Strong Growth in First Quarter of 2025

During a recent government meeting in Turkmenistan, the Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency, Mammethan Chakyyev, presented a report to the country’s Head of State, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on the agency’s economic performance for the first quarter of 2025.

The data revealed a significant growth rate of 118.4% in the work performed and services rendered by the transport and communication sector, indicating a positive trend in the development of the country’s infrastructure. Of particular note were the indicators in the field of transportation, with passenger transportation showing a growth rate of 101.4% and freight transportation reaching 104.3% across all modes of transport.

Despite global challenges posed by the pandemic, Turkmenistan’s transport industry is not only recovering but also experiencing accelerated growth. Türkmenhowaýollary (Turkmen Airlines) demonstrated impressive results, exceeding planned targets by more than a quarter with a growth rate of 126.5% in January–March.

Following closely behind, Türkmendeňizderýaýollary also showed impressive performance at 125.5% plan fulfillment, while Türkmenaragatnaşyk communication specialists met their planned tasks at 122%, reflecting a steady increase in demand for telecommunications and postal services.

Rounding out the list of top performers for the quarter were Türkmenawtoulaglary and Türkmendemirýollary, achieving plan fulfillment levels of 110.4% and 107.1% respectively. These results highlight the importance of developing land-based logistics in Turkmenistan’s expanding role in transit.

Overall, the first quarter results confirm that Turkmenistan’s transport and communication sector is playing a crucial role in laying a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth and international integration.
