“Persistent Burning Eyes: A Possible Sign of Undiagnosed Illness”

Eye Allergies can cause Visual Impairment if Ignored, warn Experts
As spring arrives and people become more intimate with nature after the longing for the sun during the winter months, experts are warning about the potential danger of seasonal allergies. Eye allergies, which take the lead among seasonal diseases, could cause problems ranging from vision loss to seemingly ordinary ailments like itching, watering, and redness, say experts.
Eye Health and Diseases Specialist, Dr. Adnan İpçioğlu cautioned that “if not diagnosed early, it can cause serious problems ranging from vision loss.” Staying away from dusty environments is the first step advised by the expert to protect oneself from the scratches, which cause deterioration in the structure of the cornea, the transparent layer in front of the eye, and could lead to Keratoconus.
According to Dr. İpçioğlu, “invisible dust is present in the air at a significant rate,” and this could further aggravate the problem. The sun is also harmful as well as beneficial, and it could cause solar allergy, which increases burning, stinging, and redness, specifically during the peak hours of the sun. Therefore, if it is necessary to go out, one should find ways to protect themselves, and this could include using sunglasses to protect against allergic reactions.
Dr. İpçioğlu has advised seeking medical attention as soon as possible if one experiences any symptoms such as itching, watering, and redness in the eyes that may be the harbinger of allergies. Although mild drugs are the first line of treatment in eye allergy, in severe cases, intensive drug use may be required.
It is better to be proactive than reactive when it comes to eye allergies, concludes the doctor as he advises individuals to seek professional help, stay away from dusty environments, and always find ways to protect themselves from the sun.
