Prosecutor’s Office Busts Criminals for Illegal Sale of Historic Gold Coin
The Yakkasaroy district department of the Prosecutor General’s Office in Uzbekistan has announced that they have successfully thwarted the illegal sale of a historic gold coin. The mobile search operation was carried out with the help of the State Security Service (SSS) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
The investigation led to the arrest of A.T. and his accomplices who were trying to sell a “Nikolay-2” gold coin from the year 1902, weighing 32.22 grams, for $100,000. However, according to the cultural heritage agency, the current value of the coin is believed to be around 1 billion soums. It is a known fact that during the reign of Nikolay II, gold coins were issued for special events, and their value has only increased over time due to rarity and historical importance.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 177 of the Criminal Code against the culprits for illegal acquisition or transfer of currency values, and investigations are currently underway. The Uzbek government has strict regulations and policies in place for the protection and preservation of historical and cultural object and artifacts. As a result, illegal activities pertaining to the sale of historical items are severely penalized.
The Prosecutor’s Office, alongside other regulatory bodies, continues to work towards the prevention and apprehension of similar illegal activities across the country. This recent incident serves as a reminder to the public to respect and uphold historical and cultural values, and to refrain from illegal and unethical activities.
