A tragic incident took place at a checkpoint established by motorcycle police teams on Imrahor Street in Istanbul’s Merkez district. The incident occurred when police officers attempted to stop a suspicious motorcycle. The suspect, ignoring the police’s warning to stop, accelerated and collided with police officer Alp Efe Bekit.
Despite all efforts made at Taksim First Yardim Training and Research Hospital, officer Bekit unfortunately could not be saved. The injured motorcycle driver, who was also taken to the hospital, is currently undergoing treatment. The motorcycle involved in the incident was found to be banned from traffic and equipped with a modified exhaust system. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine further details.
Meanwhile, a funeral ceremony was conducted in honor of the martyred police officer Alp Efe Bekit at the Vatan Campus of the Istanbul Police Department. Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya will attend the ceremony, and Bekit will be laid to rest in Ankara.
